How nice of you to drop by! Welcome! I'm Sarif Mohammad Tasnim Islam, better known perhaps as Susmit Islam. I am a medical doctor practising medicine in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Despite studying medicine, I have a keen interest in other branches of science and mathematics. The rest of the page is a summary of who I am, what I like and so on. <What do I do?/>

Currently I'm a Lecturer at the Department of Anatomy of Z.H. Sikder Women's Medical College under the University of Dhaka. Previously I have been an intern doctor at Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital under the same university. I have also been a technology officer at CallosumBD, an educational platform for medical students, for about 2 years during my time at SSMCMH. I've worked as a content writer at various science blogs in Bangladesh over the last several years, eventually quitting during my transition into professional life. I can code up websites like this one. I also am reasonably skilled in statistics, data science and machine learning.

<What do I want to do?/>

I'm interested to work in Computational Biology and Genomics, and AI in Healthcare. I have a solid grounding in the theoretical basis of ML, and am experienced in using popular ML libraries and frameworks like Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow , Keras, OpenCV, NLTK, SpaCy etc. I am fluent in Python, R, C, C++, Go, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6), and have some nodding familiarity with Julia and MATLAB.

<Education/>

I have an MBBS (Bachelor's of Medicine and Bachelor's of Surgery) degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College under the University of Dhaka.

I completed my higher secondary education from Birshrestha Noor Mohammad Public College, with a GPA of 5.00. Prior to this, I completed my secondary education from Adarsha School Narayanganj, this too with a GPA of 5.00.

I am also a very keen self-learner. I learn a lot of stuff from YouTube, Coursera, and other amazing resources online.

<Interests/>

I have been very enthusiastic about science from my childhood. The field that captured my interests most strongly was theoretical physics. I have also been keen about computers, programming in particular, since my late teens. For the past several months I've been teaching myself data science and machine learning, especially deep learning. Apart from these I also enjoy doing mathematics and biology, especially genetics and computational biology (not that I hate chemistry though). A fair share of my spare time is spent doing these.

These aside, I am an occasional enjoyer of animes and mangas. I am a big fan of One Piece. Other favourites include Code Geass, Monster, Death Note, Gintama, 20th Century Boys, Hunter X Hunter, My Hero Academia, One Punch Man, and Dragon Ball Z. I also am an occasional enjoyer of both Marvel and DC movies. My favourite YouTube channels include, in no particular order, PBS SpaceTime, SciShow, 3blue1brown, Michael Penn, Tom Scott, Zach Star, Flammable Maths, Crash Course, Medlife Crisis, Yannic Kilcher, Web Dev Simplified, Tech with Tim, B.D.A. Law, Mr Morj, JoyBoy theories and a whole bunch of others. Some other things I keep tabs on: Cricket, Football, WWE, UFC etc.

<Current Pursuits/>

Right now, I'm spending most of my time working as an intern doctor. The little free time I can make I usually spend teaching myself abstract algebra, topology, number theory, and some other mathematical curiosities. I've also been working on a deep learning research project involving the screening of autism from facial images. It's been submitted to a few journals, and I hope it gets accepted soon.
